We have the divine name and we have the tongue to say it, so where is the fear says Sri Bodhendra Swamigal. Namakeerthanam is the easiest, most suitable way and will yield the greatest benefits. Ramarajyam is not far we have to constantly chant nama and make others chant everywhere! ~ HH Maharanyam Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamigal

THARANGAM

By HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamigal in "Kathai Kelu" Discourse on Marudhanallur Sadguru Swamigal at Narada Gana Sabha on Jan 11 - Jan 19th 2014

In the Marudhanallur Sadguru sampradayam, during unchavrutthi they will only sing the Tharangam of Sri Narayana theerthar. Because Sri Narayana theerthar when he had once come to Tamil nadu, he stayed at Govindapuram, the Adhisthanam of Sri Bodendra Swamigal. Whilst being there he found the leaves of the Nama Siddhantam created by Sri Bodendral and having read all that, Sri Narayana theerthar sang them all as keerthanams collectively called as Tharangam. Narayanatheerthar has sung the dasama skandam of the Srimad Bhagavatham itself as Krishna Leela Tharangani.

"Rama Krishna GovindEthI namasampryOgEthI kAmamiha SnAthavyam SarvOthamaprayAge Rama Krishna Govinda|

No one has sung the nama siddhantam itself as a keerthanam like this.

Puja, dhyana, yoga, anushtanam in this country, this time, this direction is usually the norm followed but for namasankeerthanam there is no norms defined.

dik dEsha kAlanapEkshA siddhasarva sulabHe sadguru kripA samudrA saMyEthulAbhe Rama Krishna Govinda ! Why do you go to allahabad and triveni sangam and perform snanam, Here ganga is antarvahini with saraswathi joining, there is no need to go there.

Rama nama gangayA militha krishna nama yAmune govindanama saraswathiprathithE Rama Krishna Govinda ! If we say rama it begets the same fruit of bathing in Ganga, if we say Krishna it begets the fruit of bathing in yamuna, if we say Govinda it begets the fruit of bathing in Saraswathi - namasamprayAke bAdithadOrasamsara vAranatatkAranE - Rama krishna govinda telling is enough.

Even today in Sri Marudanallur sadguru swamigals nama siddanta tharangam this particular tharangam will be sung during the taking of unchavritthi.

Narayanatheerthar sang many keerthanams as krishna leela tharangani which is the 10 skandam in the srimad bhagavatham. Although a sanyasi, he used to come to sing at the varugur srinivasa perumal temple in the night with a tambura. In the night all the villagers would hear "ehi muham dehi sri krishna mam pahi gopala bala sri krishna" - please come and give me darshan krishna and give me anandam. The villagers would object to his song and dance with so many keerthanas being a sanyasi this is against the sastras. What to do says Narayana theerthar, I don't wish to sing and dance but the gopalan is not allowing me to.  They reply that this is all your imagination, the bhagavan is neither asking you to sing or dance. So next day narayana theerthar asks those who are against him to come to the temple to see for themselves. "Krishnam kalayasakhi sundaram. While singing like this with anandam, the bhagavans flute and the sounds of the anklets are heard. They are amazed, whereas narayana theerthar can see the bhagavan in its real form but they don't have the ability to see so and can only hear the flute and sound coming from the anklets. Looking at narayana theerthar they all say its right that bhagavan has indeed called all of us to hear sing and dance. Because we would have never heard this otherwise any day. "VishnOr gAnantha nrithyancha natanacha vishEshatahA brahmaNu brahmanacharinam karthavyam nithya karmavathu". For vishnu, singing and dancing is very vishEsham.
